Fifty-seven — Heinz varieties

The '57 Varieties' slogan of H.J. Heinz was coined in 1896 by Henry Heinz, inspired by a shoe ad reading '21 styles'. The company actually had more products, but 57 sounded good. Today it is one of the most recognizable numbers in branding.

Lanthanum (La) is the first element in the lanthanide group, atomic number 57. Used in high-quality optical glass, hybrid car batteries, and oil refining catalysts.

Mathematician John Conway called 57 'Grothendieck's prime' — legend has it that great mathematician Alexander Grothendieck once called 57 a prime as a 'concrete example'. But 57 = 3 × 19, making it composite.
