The US and Canada use mains voltage of 110–120 volts, while Europe uses 220–240 volts. The standard developed historically: Thomas Edison chose 110V for the first power grids in 1882.

The 110 metres hurdles is an Olympic athletics discipline for men. The 110m distance was chosen historically: the track was originally 120 yards, which in metric conversion gave 109.73m, rounded to 110.
