One thousand twenty-four — kilobyte

1024 bytes = 1 kilobyte (kibibyte). The number 1024 = 2¹⁰ is the fundamental unit of measurement in digital systems. 1024 KB = 1 MB, 1024 MB = 1 GB. The entire data storage hierarchy is built on this number.

The 1024×768 pixel resolution (XGA) was the monitor standard from the mid-1990s to the early 2000s. Web designers of an entire decade targeted it. Today it is considered outdated but memorable.

October 24, 1945 — the UN Charter entered into force. The United Nations was established to maintain international peace after WWII.

1024 = 2¹⁰ = 4⁵ ≈ 10³. It is precisely the closeness to 1000 that caused the use of 'kilo' to denote 1024 in IT. This 'rounding' caused confusion in the industry until the term 'kibibyte' was introduced.
