Three — the sacred number

Three is the most sacred number in most world religions. The Christian Trinity, three worlds in Norse mythology, three main gods in Hinduism (Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva). The triangle is the first and most stable geometric figure.

The 'rule of three' is one of the main principles of storytelling. Three acts of a play, three repetitions in fairy tales, three wishes from a genie. Three is the number the brain perceives as a complete pattern.

A proton and neutron consist of exactly three quarks. This is a fundamental fact of quantum chromodynamics — the science of the strong nuclear interaction.
